Pacific Mercantile Company is a decently stocked store with a strong focus on Japanese goods. It’s not a full Asian grocery store, so don’t expect a huge variety beyond that. The produce section is quite small but has some essentials. A nice perk is that they validate parking in the neighboring lot if you spend $10 or more, which is very convenient. Good for specialty Japanese items!

Mid-August 2024 KUDOs: Small Asian store selling a variety of food, décor, gift items, dishware in an area allowing for relatively easy browsing. Very helpful personnel, no hard sell. Clean, calm, tidy. CHALLENGEs: Note: be aware the store has a limited variety of many items; this is not a large Asian big-box outlet. Highly recommended. Delighted to find this place and its offerings.

Super unique and long-running Japanese/east Asian market located next to the historic Sakura Square(Buddhist temple). It’s pretty amazing how many products this store offers as it’s size is a but deceptive from the outside. Not sure if you can find this amount of Japanese products in one place in the Denver area. Sure the prices are bumped up because of import and downtown location, but it’s definitely worth supporting this local business.

When you walk into the shop it has the authenticity of a real Asian market. The selection is extensive and the price is beyond reasonable. The service by Jacob and silos made my experience next level. You would be making a mistake not coming here

What a gem! We had such a wonderful time visiting Pacific Mercantile Company in Denver. It’s more than just a store—it’s a piece of history. We loved learning about the generations of family who have owned and operated it over the years. The current owner, Jolee, was an absolute delight—the kindest, warmest person we met on our trip. She welcomed us like family and even gave all of us a hug as we were leaving. It truly made our visit special. We spent over an hour exploring all the unique snacks, beautiful Japanese dishes, and fun cultural items—every corner had something new and exciting. The whole family loved it, and we left with bags full of goodies and smiles on our faces. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in Denver. Jolee and her store are something truly special.

Although previously researched on the history of this oldest continuously operating Asian supermarket in Denver (probably also in Colorado or even the United States), seems like never have an in-depth walk through of our very own Pacific Mercantile Company. It has been a staple in the Denver for more than 100 years (if counting the years under N. Tatsukawa) . Besides groceries, the store also is a bazaar of Japanese tableware, cutlery, stationary, decoration and much more. Most groceries are competitively priced compared to larger Asian supermarkets in town. You can also find varieties of affordable fresh sashimi at the fish counter, including sea urchins. But what makes this place unique is its distinctive Japanese mom and pop grocery store feel throughout the years, carrying the legacy from generation to generation.
